The founders of Outside Labs, Nic Martens and John Bowen,
meld world-class scientific expertise with a lifetime of action
sports experience. Nic earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from
the University of Cambridge in the UK and spent 13 years developing
breakthrough healthcare products for Johnson & Johnson.
John earned graduate degrees at both Caltech and Harvard,
and was a rocket scientist at NASA. Both have surfed and snowboarded
extensively across the globe.
We have partnered with Hawaiian Island Creations, an authentic
surf company with deep roots in the sport and a reputation
for high performance technical equipment, to develop THE BEST
skincare products on the planet for surfers and other active
